Changing Folder Attributes

A recent thread noted that the MSO cache should be a "hidden" folder. Since
it was not put on my computer that way, I thought I'd change the attribute
myself. Out of sight, out of mind.
Is it safe to do the same with other folders, such as 1386, PNP Drivers,
Cabs, and one with a long series of alphanumeric symbols?

Absolutely ok. The functionality of a folder doesn't change, even if it is
hidden.

Not strictly true. Usually ok but many XP commands will ignore hidden files and directories. (and some ignore system and/or read only - one has to read the docs on each particular command).

I would not change it as it might not caue a problem for a year and then you'll be here saying "stupid microsoft, can't make an OS that works"
