Changing extension back to .pf?

I need to change an applcication back to .pf and I cannot. I had a stupid .pf
file that would not let me work, so firt i set priority to low, then did
search to see what app was using it... it was in prefetch,I went to prefetch
folder and changed it to something else so it wouldn't work. .pfx. turns out
pfx IS some application that XP recognizes, needless to say that did not do
the trick the applciation still runs itself and eats up all my memory and
speed, I end process and it comes right back. I don't even know what it is
doing. I'm sure if I shut down the system may come back but XP warned me not
to chg anything in prefetch folder so I want to just change it back, but I
just manage to change the name of the pfx file and I cannot chg the .pfx back
to .pf... I think there is a way to go through command to do this .. but I
dont' know. thank you

I had a similar problem, go to "command prompt" and type the DOS command as
follows:- "rename" "file path and name" "new file name" it will look like
this:- rename C:\hold\test.doc test.avi. Do not forget the spaces.
