Changing disp using Display Properties doesnt change avail resolut

I tried to upgrade my video to an Diablotek 7500-128A AGP card in my Dell
GX260, but it wouldn't let me install the ATI drivers (separate problem).
When I reverted to the on-board Intel 82845G chip, it decided that my monitor
changed to some default. My monitor is Acer AL1916W and only has 2 modes in
the INF file - 1024x768 and 1440x900. I cannot for the life of me get the
1440x900 to show up. I have reinstalled the INF several times with no joy.
When I look in Device Manager/Chipset properties/Bus Relations it lists
DEFAULT_MONITOR instead of ACRAD52.

When I look in registry HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Enum/DISPLAY I see a
couple of different monitors including ACRAD52. Also there are 2 entries
under Default_Monitor, one of which (sort of) looks like the entry under
ACRAD52, except under Device Parameters it has BAD_EDID instead of EDID.

What do I have to do to force the adapter to "bind" to the right monitor?

The Acer driver is unsigned, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you changed the setting to allow unsigned drivers?

To set file signature verification options
Open System in Control Panel.
On the Hardware tab, click Driver Signing.
Under File signature verification, click: Ignore

Maybe Add New Hardware will let you chose 'have disk', if you've not tried
that yet.

Without the right INF, I'm afraid it's not going to happen.

Yep, been there, done that.

It actually says "Acer AL1916W" in the Monitor properties box, but it does
not show valid resolutions in the resolution box, particularly the one I want
to use (1440x900). It shows max of 1280x1024 as max, and 1024-768 as min. The
"Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" box is checked. If I uncheck
that box, a slew of other resolutions become available, but not the ones that
the Acer likes, and definitely not 1440x900.
