Changing Computer Name

I have upgraded to Vista from XP. I am now trying to change the computer
name but the OK button is greyed out after changing the name. I am logged in
as the administrator. Is there another setting or change in the system to
allow me to do this?

Did you reboot the computer after making the name change?

OK. The precise sequence of steps you used to change the name is not
precisely clear. Your original post seems to be saying that you changed
the name once, when you upgraded, and that you're now trying to change
it again. Now, your response to my query seems to being saying that you
did not, in fact, ever actually change the name. Which is the case?

Also, it's not clear as to what account you're using to do this. Are
you logged in with the built-in Administrator account, or another
account with administrative privileges; which is it? Have you verified
that the account you're using does, indeed, have administrative
privileges in Vista?

Did you get the UAC prompt asking you to elevate your privileges for
the task?

I am logged in as administrator (no other accounts) . I upgraded from XP
which has the same name as exists now. I have never been able to change it.
I tried but the OK option is greyed out. I thought this might have something
to do with UAC.
