Is there a way to change the case of text in a cell in Excel 2003 as there is
in Word?

Look at the functions LOWER(), UPPER(), and PROPER().

I meant something equivalent to the SHFT-F3 shortcut key in Word that I could
apply to text already entered. By the time I use the Functions you
mentioned, I doing more typing than if I had just retyped the cell entry.
Plus, then I would have the text in a different cell than the original where
I wanted it the first place, would I not?

No equivalent in Excel to Word's SHIFT + F3

But.....................

You only have to type the formula in top cell of a column once then drag/copy it
down the column.

When happy with the results, copy the column and Edit>Paste Special(in
place)>Values>OK>Esc.

Delete the original column.

The free Excel add-in "XL Extras" provides that feature by adding choices
to the Format menu. You can select Upper, Lower, Proper and Sentence case
and change all text in the selection.
It does other stuff too, including inserting a Table of Contents and sorting sheets.
