Changing admin password

Hello,
I'm running W2K domain, 3 DCs and Exchage 2000.
I would like to change password for administrator account.
Are there any special things need to be done?
I mean Exchange services, backup application serrvices etc.

Thanks a lot,
Gary

You will need to update any service that uses that admin account for logon
credentials. I went through every service that was running on our servers
and documented which ones use the admin account. Once that's done, you have
a list to use whenever you have to change the password.

A messy alternative is to change the password and reboot the server. Look in
the Event Logs for errors in loading services....

If you've installed apps like AV and backup software to run as the
administrator account, this could get very messy. In this case, a lot of
the DCOM components can be using this account. Take Sophos AV for
example -a great product, but a hell of a mess when you want to change the
account password. Load dcomcnfg.exe and check the credentials in there as
well as the services, etc.

Hi,

I checked the AV and backup services -- they are confgured to
start with LocalSystemAccount.
Should I still change something?

Thanks a lot,
Gary

Gary,

You'll be fine with the things that are configured to use the local system
account. This is not something that you can change and not something that
it tied to the Administrator password.

Sounds like you are in a good place with this. I would suggest, though that
you make sure that you have another Admin account in there as a backup, just
in case there are problems. This is good to do in general.
