Changes made to Avast antivirus free version?

I was running a scan on my PC using the Avast free version. It found
something and gave me the option of deleting it permanently. I chose
that option; however, in the post-scan summary, it showed that the
delete "could not be done on this system."

Now a month and a half ago, it deleted viruses that it found like this
without any problem. But Avast has been updating virus definitions and
the software using its automatic update engine pretty regularly since
that time.

I was wondering if they disabled the delete feature in their software in
order to get people to upgrade to the pay version of their software.

Hope someone can offer some input. Thanks!!

or maybe the file was in use and therefore locked by windows, or maybe
the file was in the system restore and therefore locked by windows...

those are two of the most common reasons why malware deletion fails...
