Rebecca Rinaldo

Dear Powerpoint People
I have powerpoint 2000 and I need to know how to change the ruler from
cms to inches and vice versa. I've looked in Tools, Options, but with no
luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Rebecca

I have checked the Regional Settings and it already says "US". My other
programs such as Word are showing up in inches, but Powerpoint 97 insists on
using cms. I didn't have this problem until I got my new computer with
Windows XP Home Edition.

Is there another setting that I'm not finding?

Hello Mary Lou,

It's possible that the regional settings for English (United States) have
been customized so that units of measurement are set to metric even though
every other regional setting is the default for English (United States).

Instructions for Windows XP:

1) Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options
2) In the "Regional Options" tab click on the "Customize" button
3) For "Measurement System" choose "U.S."
4) Click "OK"
5) Click "OK"

Also, depending on your version of PowerPoint, you might have to Exit and
restart PowerPoint before the changes take effect.

Dear Mary Lou, John, Bill, Rebecca, and others who have previousl
raised the question on this site how to change from metric to US syste
or vice versa in Power Point.
I have found the same problem with my Office 2000-package: Word an
Excel show distances in centimeters but PP shows inches. I have sough
advice from wise it-guys, and I have come to the conclusion that it i
a built-in problem with PP for which there seems to be no solution
Doesn't Microsoft have some useful suggestions? Or at least a
explanation, why they did not offer some help for this problem.

Kind Regards
Jens (Denmark

Actually, the post you replied to is directly from Microsoft, and there
are suggestions in it. Did that not work for you?

Hello Jens,

PowerPoint for Windows (all versions) does not have the ability to change
the units of measurement from within the application and, instead, relies
on the "Measurement System" from the "Regional and Languange
Options"control panel.

If it's important to you (or anyone else reading this message) PowerPoint
to provide the ability to control the units of measurement from directly
within PowerPoint as either a PowerPoint setting or a per-presentation
settingsave presentations as movies, don't forget to send your feedback to
Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
