Change the number of charaters in a cell by adding a zero

I need to change the number of charaters in a cell by adding a zero to the beginning. Example 12345678 to 012345678. Tried changing formats, number to text, and custom with nine zeros.

Thanks

Peter,
Both changing the number to text, and the nine 0 custom format should work.

If you changed the number format to text after you had entered the number, then the preceding zero was already dropped before the format change. You need to change the number format to text before entering the number.

If you change the number format to the nine zero custom after you had already changed to cell to text, the number is not converted back to a value until you do somthing to it, like click in the formula bar and hit enter. Again you need to change the format before entering the number.

Good Luck,
