Change running order

I have a slow shutdown problem. On startup, it's good to see the Antivirus
and Firewall icons appear before the other applications appear on the
notification tray. and it boots quite quickly. But on shutdown, FW and AV
are terminated first, then I have long wait till the computer shuts down. I
must be very vulnerable during this time. Is there any way I can change the
order of events for shutdown (yet leave the booting and startup things alone)?

Name each item with a number ie: 1appname 2appname 3appname etc...

Sound promising! How and where do I do this? (And have one order for
starup, and another for shutdown (in XP Home)?).

Sorry for the delay in my reply. Just a quick post to say thank you. I
haven't actually tried it yet, but I have now got it.

And just for the record, it may not be necessary now! My slow shutdown
problem has been resolved. I now know the cause of it...

Norton's so-called protection corrupted many of my files, including part of
its own Firewall. So far I've only reinstalled the firewall, and a lot of my
problems have been solved. (My other problems will be the subject of new
postings.)

Thank you for all your help and input.
