Change Program Names In Add/Remove Programs

Steven

I know how to do the above, but I cannot do it when it
involves Windows XP hotfixes.

The problem I have is that when I change the name of a
hotfix using the DisplayName value in
HLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
in the Registry, Windows Update and Automatic Update does
not recognise the renamed hotfix and either displays or
tries to download the missing hotfix.

Is there a way that I can change the name shown in
Add/Remove Programs while still allowing Windows Update
and Automatic Update to Work Properly.

Tough one, whose up for the challenge?

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe one can change the name of a Windows Update
hotfix. When a hotfix is installed, there are reference entries
created in an install.log and the registry. Windows Update searches
for that specific information and if there were name changes, it would
determine that the hotfix doesn't exist and would then suggest
you download it. One cannot control what Windows Update scans for.
