change order of animation items in animated graphs

I need to animate a graph, so that the first half of the columns pop up from
left to right and the second half from right to left.
I animated the graph by series, or elements of series and tried to change
the order of the items by drag and drop like I can do that with different
animations, but it doesn't work.
Is there any way I can change the order of animation items?
Thanks!

After you apply your animation to the chart, click the little
downward-pointing chevron double-arrow thing in the Custom Animation task
pane. This expands the chart animation so you can see the order that the
animations occur.

You can select one and use the reorder (up/down) buttons at the bottom of
the task pane, or you can simply drag and drop in the task pane to change
the order.

This is, of course, assuming that you're using PPT 2002 or 2003.

Yeah, that works for two different animations, but I cannot change the order
of the items within one animation, meaning I cannot change the order in which
the columns pop up, but it always goes from left to right. I have ppt 2003

Ah. You will probably have to ungroup your chart and animate the individual
pieces, then.

I'd make a copy of the chart, right-click and select Format/Object on the
original, size to 5% and then drag that off the edge of the slide so you can
get back to the original data/chart should you need to. Then I'd ungroup the
copy of the chart.
