Change of identity with Outlook Express while Internet explr is Op

When I attempt to change from one identity to a second with Internet Explorer
open, the machine "hangs up" and I have to restart to accomplish the change.
The same problem does not exist when I use Mozilla instead of Explorer. The
problem started about a month ago. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
