Hello Lourdes
How can to change format or style of footnote separator line?
I would like more thick line or another style, but not the thin line that
allways have to use footnotes.

In Normal View, go to View | Footnotes (IIRC). Then on the bottom, you
should get an area with a drop-down menu where you can select Footnote
text, or the separators. Here you can delete the separator and insert
your own.

If you have trouble finding this, please make sure to mention the
version (and maybe language edition) of Word you're using.

Thank you Robert.

I'm using Word 2007 in Spanish.

In fact, I don't have any trouble in edition footnote because I've reading
all about edition footnotes separator lines or text in this discussion group,
but, I need to change the appearance or the style of the footnote separator
line.

For example, when I'm editing the separator line, I need to include a thick
line but I can't.. any way I can't insert a image of a new thick line because
inmediatly the Word editor change to "print view", then i'ts impossible to
insert a thick line instead of classical thin line to use Word, since many
years ago..

Is it possible?

I appreciate your help.

You can't insert it as a graphic, but you can use a thick paragraph border
or an underline (with font size set to a large amount and bolded).

Can't you select the line shown in the Contination Separator dialog
and change its weight with the regular lineweight change box?

I don't think so. This line is quite mysterious. I think Bob Buckland once
explained what it actually is, but when you select it, the line weight tools
are disabled and border weight doesn't apply to it, either. You can
substitute some other kind of line, but the only way to "edit" the line
itself is to copy/paste it to be twice or three times as long (you can't
make it shorter). It's in a sort of bounding box (at least it is if you have
text boundaries displayed), but that box can't be sized.

It's been a long time since I had to deal with that line, but I think
its length can be changed either with the handles on the box that
appears when you click it (or am I back in FrameMaker again? --which
doesn't do footnote continuations), or by changing the margin settings
in the ruler while its dialog is open or while the line is selected.

Nope, there are no handles on the box. Changing the paragraph indents will
change the placement but not the size.

Thank you very much, Suzanne and Grammatim, for your time and search in this
case.

I was practice so many times in all the cases you were written, but nothing
happens. The footnote separator line is remain thin. =(

I think the only way to resolve this trouble and continued whit my work, is
to leave the line like it is, since many years ago, until Microsoft
considered to solve this restriction or until somebody tell them, but in that
case, we need to wait for the next version, unfortunately.

Any way, I appreciate for your help.

I think you are giving up unnecessarily. If you delete the existing
separator and substitute an underline formatted as, say, 24-point Bold, it
will definitely be heavier.
