a domain policy states that users should change password at next logon or
after a certian point in time ( e.g. 90 days ). this works correctly for
Win98, NT, & Win2K machines, but the WinXP machines have to be rebooted an
extra time on the day the password should be changed for the system to prompt
them for a password change. is there any reason for this, or is this a
configuration problem in XP that needs to be specifically addressed ? the
local settings do not have 'password never expires' and all machines (
Win98, NT, Win2K, & WinXP ) are
members of the domain. any info on this (strange) problem would be greatly
appreciated.

I'm not quite getting your question. Are they already logged on
during this last day? Do you expect the system to tell them, in that
case, they need to change the password? To my knowledge, the system
checks for password expires when they logon, not every time they use
the keyboard.

most recently, the user/account option to require users to change password on
next logon was checked for all users late one sunday evening. when the users
came in monday morning and turned on their machines, all machines running
win98, winNT, & win2K prompted the users to change their passwords first
thing in the morning upon signing on to the domain. the winXP users were not
prompted to change their passwords when they turned their computers on and
signed on to the domain, although that same change password option was
checked for them too. they had to turn their computers off again and restart
( although i think that logging off worked too ). and it was only the winXP
machines that had this problem. also, its a win2003 server domain.
