change distribution list action

When you open a distribution list there is an "X" that if you press deletes
the entire distirbution list not just one contact. is there anyway to remove
the "X" option?
 
No. Probably best just to learn how to use the menu.
Use "remove" instead of "delete"
You already have a backup if you make a mistake: just retrieve the DL from
the Deleted Items Folder.
