change default save folder

i'd like to have 'desktop' be my default save location rather than My
Documents. Can this be done?

That depends mostly upon the application from which you're saving the
files in question. Most applications will have an option (somewhere
within their respective tools/options/configuration/settings menu(s))
with which to designate their default file save locations. I'm not
aware of any equivalent WinXP setting that could be made to apply to all
applications universally.
