change date and time to mmmyyyy Distinct

In my query I have field EDate.
How can I get the below to look like MMMYYYY and be DISTINCT

EDate
11/3/2003 2:36:59 PM
11/20/2003 10:39:38 AM
1/23/2004 2:55:49 PM
1/30/2004 2:05:28 PM
1/30/2004 2:41:18 PM
1/30/2004 3:08:32 PM
2/9/2004 9:51:45 AM

Should now be...

Then select View/Totals. You will see 'Groupby' appear in the totals row.

This works for formatting to mmmyyyy, however I am unable to sort desc
because it is now a text field.

Any suggestions?

Add the field to the query without formatting and sort on that. You can
choose to hide this field from the query's output by unchecking the tickbox
on that field.
