certain web-site functionality blocked :Trouble with Java (maybe)

Using Toshiba laptop with Windows XP, IE 6.

Recently re-installed scren driver (which surely can't be related), don't
remember having done anything else, however.. .

I now have a problem with some web-sites when trying to access some
functionality, eg using Yahoo Mail from IE I now cannot 'see' my Address
Book. When I click on 'Address' I just get a blank screen, as if something is
being 'blocked'. It's NOT a pop-up, as the nornmal ctrl A still works when a
pop-up is being blocked.

Any suggestions as to waht settings i should look at in IE? any clues as to
why this has just started?

Hi,

Did you install or enable some anti-spyware softare? Maybe your HOSTS file
contains an entry that shouldn't be blocked. Try searching for the file
(no extension), rename it and reboot. Does that help?

More info on the HOSTS file:

Kind regards

Thanks Hans for this suggestion. Didn't work though, as the two hosts file I
found via a search were both last modified in 2004, so I'm still puzzled. It
definitely isn't the site itself (I thought there might be problems there),
as I accessed my Yahoo mail address book quite happily from my work desktop
today.
