'Centre across selection' format to apply to vertical range

The format cells - 'Centre Across Selection' centres the text withing the
painted cells horizontally. This is done without merging the cells. In the
similar fashion, can we put the text in the centre of the vertical range of
painted cells ?

Go to the cell and right click > format cells > Alignment then choose
"centre" for horizontal and vertical

If I read his post correctly, I don't think that will do what he asks for,
James. With, say, one line of text in A1 and the row height set to 75,
centering vertically will center the text vertically within cell A1. I believe
he wants to do the above, then, say, select A1:A11, and have the text *appear*
as though it's been typed in (adjusting for the increased height of row 1)
approximately A3. That won't happen. It will still be centered within A1.

AFAIK, the only way to accomplish "center vertically across selection" is to
merge cells A1:A11. Then the text will straddle the border of rows 3 and 4.
But merging cells creates its own set of problems...
