Yep, you can't make an MVP appear "incorrect" and so forth. He/she makes
sure such a response goes away. Not always, but this sometimes happens.
Not talking about language, or personally attacking the MVP, just the
reply in response to such incorrect or misleading information. The
"green" MVPs are more likely to receive such and respond in such a manner.

At one time MS wanted to know if MVPs should have the power to remove posts
and the vast majority of us said "no". So we don't have that power.

That is totally UNTRUE.

Is it my imagination or have all posts and replies involving Imhotep
disappeared? He is a troll, most of his posts are very annoying. but I
don't see any reason to censor them. Occasionally he gives good advice.
Those posts are missing as well. Anyone not agreeing with him has the
option of not reading his posts.

No I am not a troll. I simply get frustrated with people who are closed
minded and refuse to open their mind to other possibilities. I am fair.
When Apple, Linux and the *BSDs screw up I am just as tough on them. So why
should I be lighter on Microsoft?

Given the number of times that MVPs post corrections to each other, that
would suggest that this kind of thing goes on all the time.

I don't see it, quite frankly.

Your best answer to any perceived censorship is to use a news server that
isn't msnews.microsoft.com, but feeds in to / out from the rest of Usenet.

The real truth is that Microsoft can't censor Usenet. They can issue
cancels for spam, but if there was systematic censorship going on, most of
the discussion on these groups would dry up. There are sufficiently many
MVPs with morals and ethics that would quit here and provide support
elsewhere.

If, on the other hand, you'd care to point to documentation of cases where
this has happened, I'm sure that there are plenty of people that would be
happy to protest on your behalf.

That must go back to before my time as an MVP, because I didn't know the
question had ever been asked. But I'm very glad the answer was "no." I
wouldn't want that power.

What happened between David Candy and John Eddy in Jan. 2003?

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...eral/browse_frm/thread/2a5d635381526fe9?hl=en

It appears to me that Joseph Conway is not an MVP. Is that the part you
misunderstood?

Mr. Saunders and Mr. Blake were referring to "MVPs," as evidenced by
the fact that they wrote "MVPs," but Mr. Conway appears to be a
Microsoft employee.

It also appears that Mr. Candy deleted his own posts, because whatever
power Microsoft might have, it does not have the ability to remove the
posts of others from Google.

In other news, you appear to be a troll, because that thread is almost
three years old, and is in no way relevant to the topic at hand.

How does anyone have the power to delete their own posts from Google
after already archived?

LOL! I don't know how you expect me to take this seriously when you
seem to have this habit of responding to posters by calling them a troll.

It's very straightforward if one knows how. :) I wasn't paying attention
the other day, and someone set the reply headers to alt.test. I sent a
cancel out after my reply (my newsserver honors individual cancels), and
then I went to google to delete the post. Of course, I'm not a big fan
of post-nuking or of x-no-archive either. I figure that we're all
obliged to be responsible for our own words, no matter how ignorant or
offensive those words might be. OTOH, I didn't deem worthy of
satisfaction the putz who momentarily fooled me, so I wiped the
evidence, and I then reposted the exact same post where it belonged.

You went to all the trouble of googling lil ol' me? I'm so flattered.

It would've been more flattering if you'd actually read the posts you
googled. In point of fact, I have a special fondness for trolls, but
only the very, very good ones.

Nonetheless, your search parameters were flawed. Try it this way,
instead:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=t...1&as_maxd=21&as_maxm=6&as_maxy=2006&safe=off&

92 posts mentioning "troll" since 1997, and most of them were in the
quoted material.

If you're going to use the tool, you should take the time to learn to
use it correctly. :)

BTW, did you morph for a reason, or did you just forget how to spell
your own name?

| As near as I can tell, there has been very little (if any) censorship
| since the mass killfiling of early May.
|
| I read and post from news.individual.net, but I also check
| msnews.microsoft.com periodically to see who (or what) is missing (most
| especially--having myself experienced the global killfile--me). :)
|
| For all that I am critical about Microsoft for some things, whoever is
| running the msnews server apparently understands that usenet is not
| about choking the life out of dissent, regardless of the rules Microsoft
| imposes on the web-based forum. He deserves a lot of credit for that,
| IMO.

The MS News Server Admin. (Mr. D. H.) does indeed inded enforce
Microsoft's news posting filter which will auto-block certain content
(i.e, R. L. G-r-o-s-s-i spam and post by
P-C-B-U-T-T-S-1) If a MVP (or other) identifies objectionable of some Off
Topic subject matter the MS News Server admin. will summarily delete the
posts at Microsoft's discretion. Not that is ONLY on the MS News Server
and if replicated to the rest of Usenet then the posts will be available
on peering servers.

While Imhotep is obviously anti-microsoft OS biased, he DOES have a strong
understanding of INFOSEC and COMSEC and his POV while taineted, is valid
and I have yet to see his posts summarily deleted or filtered.

....well thanks, I think...

I have read most of the posts I googled where you refer to others as
trolls. I lurk on use net relatively often and have for years.

Yes, I "morphed" as you put it just to gain notice. Looks like it
worked. :)

How very odd.

This post is on the MS server, but it as of this moment, it has not
made it to the Berlin server.

Remember that NNTP is by no means a guaranteed messaging service, it's
totally possible that a post made in one place will simply fall though the
cracks and never appear in another place.

It's very important to keep that in mind when considering "censorship"
issues - I for one have had egg on my face in the past when I called
something that and it turned out to be a simple case of a message getting
lost.

I can guarantee to you that I've never done this in all the time I've been

Care to either present your evidence or retract your apparently groundless
accusation?

Sorry. :)

I didn't think it was censorship at work. I just thought it was very
odd.

If it had been the other way around, it would have been an entirely
different matter; I just thought it was strange that it never made it to
my server (still hasn't).

Incorrect. This group is semi-moderated. Any post from anybody can be

My comment related to removing posts from Google, not removing posts
from the msnews server.

Google does not honor cancels, so if a post makes it to Google, the only
person who can remove it is the person who made the post.

Clear now?
