cells highlighted

When we open a spreadsheet and click in a cell the
pointer turns into the cross and acts as if we are
holding down the shift key and highlighting every cell
that we move the cross over. The only way we can close
excel is to CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the process. How do we
prevent or turn off the this issue where once we select a
cell that no matter where we move the cursor it
highlights every cell?

Check to see if you have EXT in your status bar. If so, try pressing F8 to
clear it.
