Cell Selection Freezes

When using the mouse to highlight cells, the cells
highlight but it is as if the original cell is the anchor
and I cannot release the anchor. I can then do no other
functions because as you move the mouse, it just
highlights each cell but doesn't let you select the
highlighted cells. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
