Cell problem - cell displays formula instead of value

im working on a spreadsheet just now which has a lot of differen
sheets

for some reason, one of the sheets wont display formulas

ive tried on various cells on the sheet

for example if E5 has a 6 in it and in another cell i write =E5, E5 i
displayed instead of 6

very strange - usually you need to put a ' at the start of a formula s
that the formula is displayed

ive never really came across this before and so im a little stumped a
to what to do next

any help would be greatly appreciated :

If the cells are formatted as text the = will be ignored. I kee
thinking there is another way of making that happen but i'm strugglin
to remember it!

no - format cells is the first thing i checked

every cell is either general or a percantage

actually - the text thing is the first thing i thought o

Got it-

Tools/Options and on the "view" tab uncheck formulas.

couldnt see the woods for the trees - i was in the options menu
doh!;

No prob- Took me 3 goes to find it. I swear it wasn't there the first
