Cell phone internet access suggestions?

I want to get on line with my cell phone and 1999 Toshiba Satellite 2545XCDT
laptop- any suggestions? Verizon is my wireless provider and I'm currently
running win 98 but most of the software I come across says no to 98. Help...

You need to check with Verizon and see what accessories/applications they offer for your particular phone. Most should not require any additional software, but you may require a special cable to connect from your computer's serial port to the phone.

I have been doing this for a couple of years. Check with Verizon and see if
they have the "Verizon Mobile Office" package for your cell phone. It
consists of the cable to connect your cell phone to your computer and the
necessary software to set up your phone as a modem.

I have and you're right, they do have a package but it requires XP to run a
USB connection. Do you know if the serial connection is any better or worse
than USB in terms of efficiency, speed, ease, etc.? Thanks. -b

I can't see any difference in the performance between USB or serial
versions, I have both for my Motorola phones. What phone are you using?
