Cell Expansion

In an excel document, I have wrap text turned on, but the cell doesn't resize
to accomodate the text. I tried format row autofit as well as double
clicking on the bottom of the row, but nothing is happening. I had to widen
the row myself by dragging the row bar down. Is there something else I need
to turn on or off?

Any help is appreciated.

If yes, then merged cells don't react nicely to autofit?

Does the cell height expand, but not enough to show all the characters?

If yes, you may want to add some alt-enters (to force newlines within the
cell). With enough of those alt-enters, the complete text will show in the
cell.

Yes, the height expands and all characters are shown. However if the first
line is longer than the rest, it does not expand automatically to the lenght
of the first line. Auto-Fit doesn't work for it either.

for example, the following is type in ONE cell using Alt-Enters:
This is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.
Now is the
time

Column width goes to 8.43 and it doesn't expand by double clicking in
between the Columns, nor does the Auto-Fit make it expand.

Any ideas?

When I have wraptext enabled and I want to force excel to only break lines based
on my alt-enters, I widen the column as much as I can. Then I autofit.

But wordwrap & autofit are doing their jobs. It's using the spaces in the text
to find where the "natural" line break should be.

And once you fit the columnwidth, you'll have to adjust the rowheight, too.
