CDs Not Auto Playing

Running XP Pro SP1

This has me puzzled. I've never liked associating CDs with any
application so normally when I insert them Windows asks me what I want to
do and gives me a few options. The last few days if I put anything into
the CD drive I hear it spin up, but, nothing happens, no Windows dialogue
asking me what to do. Explorer shows the disk as zero bytes and no free
space. Clicking on the drive I see the full contents of the CD listed.
Opening the CD in any player it can be played. If it is an installation
CD I have to click on the autorun.exe to start it. Drive Properties show
autorun turned on and to ask me what to do. Anyone any idea how to fix
this?

Could be the insert notification has been deactivated
by a burning software. You can reactivate it with
my tool - reboot required.
