CDROM will not enable in XP

Problem: WinXP will not enable the CDROM drive.

XP recognizes the CDROM, identifies by brand and model in
device manager but flags it with the yellow "!" symbol.

I have tried 4 different CDROM drives with the same
result. 1. CDROM. 2. CDROM-RW. 3. DVD-ROM. 4. DVD-RW

All different brands and models. They are listed in
device manager but will not enable and/or show in
MyComputer or Explorer.

All of these are recognized by the BIOS and can be used
to boot to the CDROM before WinXP starts.

Help!

This can be because of filter drivers remained from CD writing software.
Have you or somebody else installed Nero, Roxio or things like this?
