CDROM Problem after Upgrade

F

Frank Perugini

Hi all,

I just upgraded my computer to XP Pro from 2K Pro. I have 2 CD Rom
Drives, one is a regular 32X CDROM, and the other a CD-RW.

They both worked fine before the upgrade. Now, if I put a CD in either
drive, and open it in My Computer, I do not see the files. The
explorer window is blank.

By accident, I discovered that if I reboot the computer with a
non-blank CD-ROM disc in the drive, it will function normally. But
then swapping it with another CDROM Disc does not work again.

It seems to get confused with the two drives. I think it may have to
do with the built-in CD writing.

Does anyone else have similar problems or any suggestions?

Hello,
I have almost same problem, but my CD-ROM is usual, not CD-RW.

Please, can anybody help?

I have the same problem and it occurs on two computers.

One computer has only a Yamaha writer. any disk that were created prior to the upgrade are not readable. A manufactured disk (program or music) will work. But anything that I have created prior - freezes the drive.

The second computer has the same problem - one drive which is brand new is a cd-rom by LG, the other is an LG burner. these will not read any cd-r's created prior to the upgrade.

I have searched everywhere for an answer but without success in finding an answer.

I still have not resolved this issue. I opened my box and isolated the
drives one at a time on the IDE port, and each single drive still
experiences the same problem.

I'm beginning to think it may be a system BIOS incompatabilty. I am
looking for a BIOS upgrade for my Micron Millenia PIII-600.

I'll keep searching and report any progress...

I had this same problem as well
The things I tried were
Makeing sure the correct drivers were installed for the CD-ROM/RW
Makeing sure the drivers for my motherboard were correct ie. IDE controller etc
And that's where I found my problem
My IDE drivers didn't work with XP and I just went and got a new MB
Maybe your motherboard has drivers available that are compatable with XP

I have the similar problem, formatting or rewriting to the RW CD’s made prior to my upgradeis not possible. Unfortunately the software that came with my Sony writer Hotburn, and Roxio’s product purchased later don’t work with WinXP. Roxio will upgrade for a fee to v5.1 and they say it will fix the problem. The WinXP burner software works but it means the Roxio and Hotburn formatted disks can’t be reused when running WinXP. The good news is I still can read the disks in WinXP and with the new dual boot Win98se and WinXP I can use the old disks when using Win98. It turns out the old burner software packages will not work with WinXP, and disks burned with them can have problems.
