cdrom not recognized,how to reinstall to working?

Hey group,thanks for any help.
My sony 580 doesnt recognize the cdrom.I tried to rebuild harddrive
with the discs that came with the computer ,but now the disc wont
rebuild.It does start up in XP ,but unable to play any cdrom.
From archives I think I need to reinitialize/reconfigure boot up.
Or reasign IRQ.or address?
If anyone can walk me thru this ,you will surely have a star on your
forehead.

FYI.....XP,notsure what cdrom maker,had this happen before and would
like to learn the fix instead of bringing back to best buy.
 
Are you trying to do a fresh install of xp? And the CD
could be read except it couldn't be install? Correct me
if I'm wrong?
 
cd will not work at all.Iknow it works but just not being loaded
correctly at start up?
any ideas?
