cdrom has a bad block

My cd rom can not read any cds.
In windows explorer when I clicked on cd drive, nothing comes up.
However in device manager it shows the device is working properly.
I had uninstaled the cd drive and rebooted the computer.
The system installed the cd drive automatically. But it still does not work.
In event viewer, the error messages are the cd drive had a bad block.

Please,can any one help urgently

i am told ,i have to format the harddrive. (i am doubtful, tht will help)

Have you tried cleaning the drive with a cleaning disk?
