I have being looking at the info at the link below. It says must have
internet access to do this. Is it possible to use this over a LAN instead?

You won't need Internet access per se, but you would need a connection to
the SMTP server used to send out the emails. If your LAN has an SMTP server
on it, and you can connect to it, you shouldn't have any problems. Of
course, the SMTP server would need a connection to the Internet in order to
relay mail to the outside world.
