cd writer/dvd not showing up on my computor

I got the latest virus and had to have the computor shop
reinstall xp home edition. Everything was working when I
left the shop. Now neither my cd burner or my dvd player
is working. XP came installed on my comp so I don't have
the program to reinstall. If I download the floppy
version how will I finish the install without the cd? I
checked device manger and they are not showing up there
either. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Betty

even if it came installed your computer should have come
with a windows XP cd, its included for situations like
this, or when you have to format your hard drive and
reinstall XP. That cd should also have the drivers and
software for your drives. So you should have the CD.

if you havent got this cd for some reason then download
the drivers... they will be free and are most likely
supplied on the manufacturers website, if not find the
model and make and search for them, the drivers will be
supplied somewhere. As for the software you may have to
contact the software vendors if you cannot find the CD
because most of the dvd software such as powerDVD or
winDVD, is not free and tell them what has happened. They
will probably ask you for computer details (maybe windows
XP registration code which can be found by right-clicking
on my computer and going to properties, it will then be
under the "general" tab). Then they may issue you another
registration code for the software. If not then im afraid
you will either have to buy the software, or download a
free program, which are hard to find and often not as
good.
