CD tray constantly opening

I'm not sure if this correct forum.......

Running P4 and XPHome. All of a sudden CR-RW tray is opening and closing. I
cannot stop it other than disconnecting power.

I've run McAfee antivirus checker (though NAV installed and upto date) and
found nothing. Run Ad-aware and Spysweeper. Removed spyware/malware and
restarted but CD-RW tray still opening closing. Changed CD-RW for CD and
whilst tray no longer opening and closing, activity light goes on and off
with CD icon doing same with mouse curser. So similar problem with another
device.

Can anyone provide help and guidance.

Thanks

Tom

Only a guess here. Maybe you've got a hardware problem. Try the CD writer
in another system.

Randy/kelly,

System is a Packard Bell P4 2GHz. As I had another system took Randy's
advice and installed it in this. This was a "bare bones" system i.e XP Pro +
SP2 and nothing else. Same thing happened. It was Ok when "Cold" but say
after 30 mins when got "hot" started opening and closing Tray. Conclusion -
definetely hardware fault.

Always wanted Dual layer DVD writer so nows my chance. Thanks for your
assistance.
