I have a Compaq with CD Burner & DVD - yesterday it ran all CD's just fine.
Today I put a CD in my CD Drive (E) and this is the message I get ' "E:/is
not a valid Win32 applicatioin." What has happened? I need help I'm not a
computer whizz but I can fix problems if told how to. Thank all of you.

Did the CD in question ever work before? Do other CDs still work?

It sounds like the CD is autorunning a program or other file which is either corrupt or not a program. Check the file AUTORUN.INF
in the CD's root directory (eg: D:\autorun.inf if D is the CD drive). Open it in Notepad and see what the program is specified in
the line OPEN=. You can disable autoplay but if it's just the one CD, I would simply ignore it unless it's a virus, in which case
you might want to copy any uninfected files from the CD then use it as skeet.

This is a strange report. I have seen it from a number of respondents
lately. I also ran into this problem.

I found it coincided with a massive viral attack which was reported in
several blogs.

I ended up doing a complete update using device manager after having run a
number of anti-virus and anti spyware programs. There was suddenly a lot of
crap on my machine which interfered with making data disks. (I backup
regularly onto DVD's)

The solution finally was to delete all my peripheral devices including my
USB disk drives and having windows reinstall them.

This may not specifically be what's causing your problem but it's what you
should check out.

Good luck.
