CD Software Issue

D Wells

One a new XP SP2 machine, I am seeing an error message stating that the CD
Burner drivers are being disabled and that the system could be unstable.

The customer attempted to load both Adaptec EZ CD Creator and Nero Burning.
Both of these applications failed to perform properly and have been removed
using Add/Remove Programs.

Somewhere defective driver(s) still exist.

How do I identify and remove these offending items?

Have you tried douing a system restore to a time previous to the
burning software being installed ?

I had a similar problem. I had to go to the Roxio site and download a
special utility that cleans and restores certain registry settings. This is
true of Nero as well. You might visit their sites and look for these
utilities. Jim

Both CD-ROM drives suddenly can't be seen by WinXP:

Hi Dick,

Common issue, easy fix.

Save the file below to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and
double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is
done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Restore CD/DVD in Explorer

CD Recording software will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has
prevented these drivers from loading.

To tidy up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
Just one of those two, making sure it is adequately up to date; really
the version 6 of either, though you can get away with a late version 5.
Mention of 'Adaptec' rather than 'Roxio' suggests that that was too old
a version.

And on no account try to install both the the Direct CD (Drag to disk)
*and* the InCD
