CD-RW Drive issues

I just replaced an old CD-RW drive that had a
malfunctioning door with a new one off of a defunct
computer that was formerly running Windows Me. The new
computer is running Windows XP. After several
involuntary reboots, the drive was able to install
itself, and everything concerning the new CD-RW drive
seems to be functioning correctly. However, the computer
is continually making that dull pinging noise, and the
cause appears to be that the "8" key is locked down.
I've switched around keyboards and uninstalled and
reinstalled the keyboard driver, but the problem
persists. (The 8 key is not actually physically locked.
In fact, the problem isn't apparent on the login screen)
This issue did not arrise before replacing the CD drive.
The CD-RW is a NEC model by the way. What can I do to
stop this problem? Is this an issue with the CD driver,
with the keyboard driver, with the jumper settings? I'm
clueless. Also, I can't download or do anything on the
computer that requires typing, because there will be at
least 3 eights between every keystroke. Please help!!!

I would also try a different keyboard. Preferably a USB keyboard. We
cannot tell you if this is a problem for your CD-RW since all you said
is NEC CD-RW. There are many NEC CD-RW's. Let me know what Model it is
and I'll find out if there are any firmware updates or known issues
