CD-ROM Drawer Not Opening

I have not changed anything regarding the physical aspect of my CS-ROM
drive. It simply will not open anymore. When I push the button to open it,
I see the light flashing indicating it is trying to do something, but the
tray just doesn't eject.

I have looked into my Win98 settings, but see nothing that 'disables' eject
tray.'

Yes, re-booting does not help. I have not been 'inside' the skins of the pc
lately to make any changes. Seems like this happened all of a sudden.

Is this a symptom of an aging CD ROM piece of gear?

Probably. The way it works is a small plastic 'cog wheel' with teeth which
wear away over time.

If you have a CD stuck inside, try a straightened out paper clip and insert
it in the small hole that should be on the faceplate. It will enable to to
retrieve the CD.

If the other device offered doesn't resolve it, try selecting the driver in
Windows Explorer, right click the drive and select "Eject Disk" from the
context menu. This will sometimes cause a tray that won't open at the touch
of a button to open.
