"Cd recording software will cause windows to become unstable" pops up on my
computer every time I turn it on but there is no cd recording software on my
computer, not even a CD burner. This isn't new, it has been happening for
like 2 years and I can't stand it anymore. I didn't take it seriously
because there isn't any cd recording software on there. It started after I
had installed that type of software but continued after I took it off.
My question is, why is it doing this and how do I make it stop? Also, will
it really cause windows to become unstable when it's not even on there?
Thanks!

sounds like you've got InCD loading on startup. it was part of Nero back
in the days...

Patti & Kdavis,

I have the same problem. I tried the MSKB article 315345 with no luck. I
also downloaded the latest Media Player and I have never installed the Real
Jukebox.

I did install and then uninstall Roxio Easy CD Creator so I figured this
article was for me. I did not find some of the files in the registry that
were in the article. I did find another that seemed dubious but I wanted to
check it out before deleting it.

The article called out a filed named Cdr4_2K. It was not there but another
file called Cdr4vsd was there. Version of CD Creator I tried to load was
pretty old so I thought this might also be a Roxio file.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Larry

All,

I searched some more through the MSKB and found a reference to the Cd4vsd
file. It is a Roxio file. I deleted it and my problem is fixed.

Path is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4vsd

Windows recording SW and NERO 6 both still work.

After 2 years of seeing that error message on start-up, I am delighted.

Easy CD Creator and Direct CD came bundled with a lot of CD Burner drives.
I loaded it with an external drive I had.

I have seen and heard no end of tales of woe regarding Roxio since XP first
came out.

Nero for me any day.

Not Plain Jane,

Right. I bought Nero 6 when I had trouble with Easy CD Creator. Oddly, the
CD burner embedded in XP Professional appears to have been licensed from
Roxio.

Go figure.
