CD-R/W hangs when copying data

I have been trying to copy a 32,180KB setup.exe file
from the HD to a formatted 700-MB CD in the CD-R/W drive
over and over for at least 5 times. However, each time
the system seemed to freez or went to an infinite loop,
even though it wrongly showed the copy being in progress
on the copy dialogue window, when the copy progress show
it was nearly complete. Sometimes, I let it run for
additional 4 hours to give it more time to finish seem-
to-be-1-minute-more copy. It never did. There was
no light flashing from the CD drive indicating any
activity on the drive, either. Just the spinning noise
occurred from the HD.

When this happened, neither could I kill the copy program
in progress nor shut down the machine. The only thing
I could do was turning off the power (this is not a good
way to do, by the way, as it would cause damage to the HD
eventually. Well, I had no choice.) Besides, copying
other files smaller in size from the HD to the same CD
showed no problem.

My HD has about 6.7GB and PC has 512MB of RAM. I closed
all running programs before starting the said copy,
but kept those that I could not close. It did not help!

Do you have any clues as to how to overcome this problem?
Thanks....

Hi,

Is your CD burner software Roxio EZ CDCreator 5.0? If it
is, you need to get the update from Roxio.com to bring it
up to version 5.3. That should help.

Thank you so much for your tip and sorry for the late
response. After downloading the Roxio EZ CD Creator
5.3.5.10, which is the latest and the one only available
for download, and replacing my old version 5.1, the copy
ran like a champ. I'm so happy.

Thanks, again.
