cd-r and dvd no longer exsist

my system froze up, so i restarted it. since then my cd and dvd rom drives
will not work and do not appear under my computer. i have tried the website
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm, and that isn't
working. anyone have any ideas?

1. Open Regedit.
2. Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the
following
registry key....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot and see if they are there.

Or boot into safe mode. Look in device manager and see if they show up. If
they do, uninstall both and reboot. Xp should reinstall them.

the filters aren't under that location, so i must have tried that already,
unless they could be located elsewhere. they do not show up in the device
manager at all. any other ideas?
