i have a Sony Vaio desk top, Windows XP home with svc pack 2 the cd-dvd rom
is a Sony\DVD RW DRU-810A. . . my laptop is a VP Matrix Windows XP svc pack
1 . . the cd/dvd is a Matshita CD
CW-8121. . .in both computers the dvd region is set on 1. . i can burn a dvd
video from file phots and play it on my desktop and my "stand alone" dvd
player. . .but the laptop will not read it. . get the message the dvd is not
formatted correctly. . .would apprciate any help and thanks in advance

You are you using a third party burning app..? Wait, are you trying to read a
DVD in a CD/RW drive, that's a no no..

Jayman. . .apparently you didn't read my complete message. . the desktop is
a burner ad the one in the laptop is a cd-rw/dvd (reader). . .i am using
Nere software to burn

installed on the laptop. . and why would that be necessary. . .wouldn't a
dvd burtner/reader be able to read a dvd no matter who made the dvd?. . as
long as it's in the correct region?? It will play on my dvd player in my
entertainment center

Jaymon. . .. forgot to mention that the laptop dvd drive will read
"store-bought" dvds and will also read audio cds...................Gene

More food for thought..

What media brand name and type (DVD-/+R or DVD-/+RW) are you using..?

Since you can read commercial disk media ok, says the drives read laser
works, that's great.. You might try disabling the inbuilt XP cd burning
capability and load Nero on the laptop or just InCd if your using DVD-/+RW
media.. See previous posted link by Ed Bott..

You are using Nero on the desktop computer, right..?
