CD drive letters change

E

Earl Lewis

I assigned my CD reader and CD writer drive letters Y and Z
respectively. I mount temporary USB drives occasionally and virtual
drives sometimes. I keep finding one of the CD drives assigned to D:
(which is a drive letter I like to keep 'among the missing' and have
Windows (XP) assign to a drive when I plug it in). How do I keep the
CD drive letters from changing?

Did you reboot immediately after changing the drive letters to Y and Z? You
must do so for the change to take permanent hold.

I am having a similar problem.
I have two CD drives and many hard drive partitions.
I normally assign the CD drives the drive letters W and X however recently
(since some windows update I think) X won't keep its setting and on reboot
goes back to the next letter after the hard drive partitions.
How do we fix this? It used to work for me.
