Category heading in table

i have downloaded the assets database template and am a bit unsure of what
the category field in the table actually does. may i know what it purpose is.
i know i can delete it but i just wanted to be enlightened about it because
objects depends on it thanks

The category of the asset. eg: Financial, Physical etc; This will prevent
unnecessary types being created.
