cascading menu problem

B

Beemer

My problem is not easy for me to describe but here goes....

I once changed my SP2 registry to speed a menu operation. All was fine but
there was a side effect. This is that I cannot move my mouse diagonally
across to a cascading menu column e.g. Start/programs, without closing the
columns before I reach the one I want.

I think I will stop now before digging a deeper hole and hope that someone
knows what I'm writing about!

How can I have a little more delay when moving mouse across "menu items I do
not want to open"?

regards,

Beemer

The only thing that comes to mind is this registry key,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

In the right hand pane, look for MenuShowDelay. The default
data for this value is 400. You might have it set too low.

Take a look here for more info.

You can also try changing the "Point" behavior when Mouse is over of an item.
To do this:

1. Right-click on Taskbar and choose Properties.
2. Click Start Menu tab.
3. Click Customize button (if using Start Menu style instead of "Classic
Start Menu")
4. Click Advanced button.
5. Uncheck the option "Open submenus when I pause on them with my mouse"

So you have to click on a Start Menu's subfolder to open it.

Hope this help, let us know!

How about a "Single Key" as a shortcut? No combination like CTRL, ALT, and
SHIFT required.

Use your Num Pad keys while defining a shortcut.

My value is set to 400. What I think I need is a reg entry which slows the
closing of a menu.

I made the change you describe but no improvement. Before I had this
"problem" I could use Start/All Programs and the cascading start program
menus would open. I could then move my mouse vertically or diagonally
across any of the "frequently used" programs to reach a cascading menu
program. However now I cannot do this without the cascading menus closign
as soon as the mouse moves over the "frequently used" program item.

| Did u reduce the speed of MenuShowDelay from 400 to lower as said by
| "Nepatsfan"
| If not, then change it to lower say 200 and then check your menus.
|
| If that doesn't help then How many programs listed in your All Programs
and
| which Windows - Home or Professional?

Sorry for delay in reply. I search the net on this problem and found only one
solution that reducing the menu speed can solve the problem. However, I asked
you many times to slow down the speed to 200 or less but you never replied
properly. Read the previous posts.

Once set the speed to lower and then check if that solves the problem.
