Is it possible to run a desktop pc from a car 12v battery . I know youd need a voltage regulator thingumygig etc etc . But is it possible . Pc PSUs run at 12v , solar pannels are cheap and batteries are aswell . Seems like a good idea if its possible . :thumb:

Not just 12v 5v too mate. And yes an invertor is needed, 12v to 240v. Recommend only turning PC on when car is running though or you will be buying a new battery everyday ;)

There is actually software to do this on microatx systems

Also Car Diagnostic software tht can be linked to a PC

Also a lot of people talking about ising a MAC mini installation instead of full size PC or Laptops

Good links TD followed this one which I thought was great .

But I'm not looking to put a pc in a car .

Was looking to have some solar pannels or small boat type wind turbine to power up some heavy duty 12v batteries . So that I can run me pc of them full time . Or have the ability to run them of the batteries and if they run down some sort of switch that would let me then run on grid electricity .I realise the setting up would be fairly costly for the batteries and such .
Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge in this field .
