Capitalisation with number styles.

Hello,

When I use bullet points, the first word I type after the bullet is
capitalised. This does not happen when you use numbered points. Is this
something that can be turned on and off or are we stuck with it?

It is the inability to capitalize after numbers that is the aberrant
behaviour rather
than the other way round. You can turn this off from tools > autocorrect
options > autocorrect > uncheck capitalize first letter of sentences. Though
this will turn it off for all sentences. For individual entries CTRL+Z
pressed immediately after the capitalization will toggle it off again.

Thanks Graham,

I like the capitalisation and want to turn the feature on when I am using
numbered lists. Can this be done?

No, see “Word does not capitalize the first letter of a sentence†at

The problem evidently was that some users didn't like the automatic
capitalization. Instead of making it an option, MS changed the behavior so
that auto capitalization *never* fires after a number followed by a
period--even in running text. This is extremely annoying in the document
body when a sentence ends with a number, but users occasionally have to be
reminded that there are two Shift keys on every keyboard, and whining about
failure of auto formatting is a symptom of how spoiled and lazy they've
become. <g>

Hi Suzanne,

I have customised my numbered list so that instead of being a number and a
full stop, it is now a number, a full stop and a space. This solves my
problem and my numbers are now working like a charm.

Thanks for letting me know about the second shift key, I am now studying the
keyboard to see if there are any other keys that I don't know about!
