can't write to 1-partition 200 GB disk past 137 GB

Which Promise card do you have. Did you install the drivers for it or are
you using the WinXP native drivers. The WinXP native driver did not allow
me to access over 137 GB on my 160 GB WDC HDD. After installing drivers
(Ultra.sys ver 2.0.0.43) supplied by the Promise card (Ultra100TX2) it
allowed access to the entire 160GB on 1 partition (149GB in Windows
actually).

In Dec 2003 I installed a 200 Gb hard drive as data disk only (must have
been XP SP1 - am at SP2 now with 2180 v atapi.sys) with a Promise card and
NTFS formatted as a single partition. Disk administration and chkdsk show 58
Gb free. However when copying files that would go past 137 GB the machine
locks up after a 'delayed write error'. [And as often happens with this
installation of XP, any lockup frequently erases files which may be open; in
some respects I miss VMS.]
Will reformatting this into 2 partitions fix the problem (after getting
another disk for backup) ?
Should this be happening ?
Is there any fix without buying a new disk which will allow me to keep this
data ?
thanks for any advice

Promise Ultra 100 TX2, the drivers were a version 1 something supplied by
microsoft - apparently i thought i didn't need to install drivers. I just
now installed v 2.0.0210.36 (had to specify it, xp couldn't find it on the
floppy) and everything seems to be okay as I just added over a gig of data
files.

thanks much
