can't use signature with stationary

I've been trying to use a new stationary page in Outlook 2003.
When a signature is switched on, opening a new email produces this MS
Word error: "A table in this document has become corrupted" - it then
advises using Word's Open and Repair to fix the doc. (which doesn't
work).

Through trial and error I have found that I get this with any HTML file
containing a table (and my stationary needs tables).

You can stop the error by turning of MS Word as default email editor,
but I don't want to do that (this is in a business, not home
environment).

I've googled but can't find anything. Can anyone help?

thanks

Interesting problem. I can duplicate it here easily and the table indeed corrupts in various interesting ways.

What about including the signature in the stationery file itself? What's the particular reason for using a table? Maybe there's a workaround.
