Can't use \\computername\c$

I have 60 win xp pro computers in a win2000 domain.

I often use \\computername\c$ to connect to user's computer as admin.

But I can't do it on any IBM thinkpad machine.

I have tried both the pre configured installation from IBM and a clean win
xp but it's the same problem.

\\IP-adress\c$ or \admin$ don't work

The error I get is "The network path was not found"

But I can ping the machine, both the computer name and IP-adress.

Ok, if I, from the user's computer first ping my computer, then I can use
\\computername\c$

Everything else is working just find on the IBM computers.

So now I must get the user to ping my computer before I can connect to the
computer.

Firewalls blocking the connections maybe?

Have you tried connecting to an ordinary share (rather than the
administrative
share)?

Administrative shares are enabled/disabled here:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Set the value of : AutoShareServer to 1
Set the value of : AutoShareWks to 1

Also check power management on the laptop - is the adapter asleep? What
happens if you ping it?

It's no firewall between the computers or any personal firewall.

I can ping the computer on both computer name and IP-address.

I can also browse to the computer under Microsoft network -My domain but I
can't open it "The network path was not found"

And I can't connect to any other share on the computer.

But if the user first ping my computer, then I can connect to it.

The computer is not in any sleeping mode because the user is working
